Significance of Flags

What is the essence of flag? Why do almost all entities have their distinguished and dissimilar flags? Does it possess any additional significance? If your son asks this what shall be your answer? Will you confess you are not concerned of your national flag and for that are unable to answer? Indeed it’s a grave sin and awfully disgraced. So you should begin like this while answering. To be very precise flags are meant to symbolize many things. Apart from representing the people of a specified country it also displays the concerned nation’s pride. In addition at the same time it also speaks eloquently of a nation’s rich history. Nevertheless flags in no way are new phenomenon. On the contrary they are being used from the ancient times for different purposes.

In the earlier days they were used by people for the sake of representing their achievements. But the greatest use of flags have been done by the military forces. To them they have been best specimens of their identities and during battles used to serve as a meeting point especially when any part of it became out of order. The soldiers divided according to their ranks used to gather around the respective flags to display a combined picture and also unity against any attack or even at the time of retreat. In those critical junctures of the war the flags were used rampantly for the sake of marking important places, for instance hospitals, important buildings and communication centers.

Thus, from then till now flags are regarded as a part of legacy. The same significance can be ascertained from the American history to whom the flag is an essential part of their glorious olden times. It was and is only at the critical times the Americans look up to the national flag with pride and respect. In the American history the flag and revolution have become synonymous.
